The Basics in Training:
1. When teaching a dog a new command, praise the dog every time he gives a correct response (even if assisted). A proper praise may be food+physical praise+verbal praise or toy+physical praise +verbal praise.
2. If the dog knows a command, but blows you off, give the dog a correction.
3. Play with the dog. Before I ever start training, I go and throw a toy with a dog for a while to build a good rapport with the dog. The dog learns much faster if he desires to please you. Ideally, I spend the first day without giving the dog a command (although, I might say "fetch" and "come-here" when playing fetch).
